Public Stations
At fast-fill CNG stations, gas is compressed prior to your arrival and stored in a large tank, of which you transfer a portion to your vehicle. This process takes a few minutes and is comparable to filling your vehicle with gasoline.
There are lots of fast-fill stations in the US, but not all of them are open to the public. Government and private facilities often exist but were built in secure areas where the public is not welcome. Other times, organizations are like toddlers and are not willing to share, or government taxes prohibit them from opening them to the public. The lack of reliable, frequent fueling stations is one of the reasons CNG has not become mainstream.
Various resources can be utilized to locate CNG public fueling stations, including the following.
- www.cngprices.com - Google Map Showing CNG Stations and Prices
- Department of Energy (DOE) Alternative Fuel Station Finder. One of the most well known resources (although not always up to date) showing nationwide CNG access
- DOE natural gas station interactive map. Another Google Maps Implementation
- Utah and Wyoming CNG Fueling Stations (Questar)
