Conversion Shops

In the past I did not think much of 3rd party CNG conversions (non-factory), but have since changed by view after conversing with other CNG owners and converters. I would recommend weighing cost, warranty, knowledge of installer/maintainer, availability of parts, etc. with a factory vs. 3rd party conversion. Whatever you do, make sure all shops are trained/certified to install and maintain a CNG system and that kits are EPA/CARB certified. (Some states will not pass emissions for non-certified kits and others will not honor tax credits - but the big one is the EPA that can fine you $5,000 per day for using a non-certified kit.) A CNG system inappropriately installed could be dangerous (... as could a gasoline system).

CNG

I agree although in order to completely convert to the alternative fuels, as a Mesa Auto Mechanic in Arizona, I believe that the engineers need to come up with more innovative and durable ways of supplying the fuels to the vehicle to prevent corrosion and other component wear, which is the demise of using these fuels.
