The Phill and Single Compression Unit models have different strengths. The following is a comparison of the two appliance types.

Price

  • Phill
    • ~$4,000 (new) or a little less (used)
  • Single Compression Unit
    • ~$8,000 (new) or $3,500-$5,000 (used)

Fueling Rate

  • Phill
    • 0.42 GGE / hour
    If you drive 100+ miles per day, Phill probably won't keep up
  • Single Compression Unit
    • ~1.0 GGE / hour

Life Span

  • Phill
    • 6,000 hours (~2,520 GGE's), then must be sent to FuelMaker headquarters (in Canada) for a $2,000 compressor refurbishment
    ~$0.33 / hour
  • Single Compression Unit
    • 4,000 hours (~4,000 GGE's, equivalent to ~9,524 hours of Phill use) but compressors can infinitely be rebuilt onsite for $500-$1,000
    ~$0.1875 / hour (@ $750 rebuild cost)

    • 0.8 kWh / hour
    240 V

    • 1.0-1.5 kWh / hour

I have seen Fuelmaker Reps quote up to $1500 to rebuild an FMQ or FM4. The problem with FM is you have to use their people because they won't sell parts to anyone else. If your rep is overpriced... You're stuck with it.
